Identify and construct RHETORICAL QUESTIONS — questions posed for effect, not requiring an answer (CCSS L.6.3.a; RI.6.6)
Identify rhetorical questions in mentor texts (Douglass title; Adichie 'How many stories...?'; Maathai 'Are we not all children of this earth?'). Construct rhetorical questions in own argument for engagement, provocation, and audience co-thinking. Distinguish from genuine questions (which expect answers) and from indirect questions.

Common misconceptions
- Uses a rhetorical question whose answer is unclear or ambiguous — defeats the purpose (audience cannot 'feel they answered').
- Asks a real (information-seeking) question and labels it rhetorical.
