Grade 4 Spring — Research Report Writing, Source Evaluation, Figurative Language Deepening, and Formal/Informal Register
English · WR G4 eng.g4.s.wr.outline_pre_writing

Use a simple outline (I., A., 1., a.) as a pre-writing strategy for the research report

Build a 4-level outline (MG-9): LEVEL 1 (I., II., III.) = section headings (intro / 3-5 body sections / conclusion); LEVEL 2 (A., B., C.) = sub-categories; LEVEL 3 (1., 2., 3.) = details; LEVEL 4 (a., b., c.) = optional specifics. Use the outline as the draft-script. Transition from the category-boxes-and-bullets planner (MG-8) into the linear outline. The outline is more detailed than the planner — every body sentence has a place in it.

Common misconceptions
  • Skips the numbering hierarchy and writes a flat bullet-list; loses the section/sub-category/detail distinction.
  • Treats the outline as identical to the planner and copies bullets directly (the outline must add detail beyond the planner).
