Grade 4 Spring — Research Report Writing, Source Evaluation, Figurative Language Deepening, and Formal/Informal Register
English · WR G4 eng.g4.s.wr.note_taking_two_column

Take notes using a two-column paraphrase/source template; distinguish paraphrase from direct quote

Use the two-column note-taking template (MG-7) with PARAPHRASE in the left column and SOURCE attribution in the right column. PARAPHRASE = the source's idea in your own words. Mark DIRECT QUOTES with quotation marks in the left column. The right column records author + title + page (or website + section + year). Each row is one fact. Organize notes by CATEGORY across multiple sources. Apply across the research arc.

Common misconceptions
  • Copies sentences from the source verbatim into the paraphrase column (failure to paraphrase = plagiarism risk).
  • Skips the source column entirely and cannot later cite the fact — the note becomes unusable for the report.
