Common misconceptions
- Compares lengths without aligning at a common baseline (object A starts at the table edge, object B starts in the middle of the table — child judges by which 'sticks out' farther on the right without checking left ends).
- Says the longer object is the one that 'looks bigger' when objects are vertical vs horizontal (perceptual error — same length but rotated).
- Confuses length with weight ('this one is longer because it's heavier').
- When measuring with cubes, leaves gaps between cubes or overlaps cubes.
