Family photograph as primary source — NOTICE / WONDER / ASK
Treat a family photograph as a source that tells us about the past. Apply the three-step routine: NOTICE (what do I see?), WONDER (what do I want to know?), ASK (who can I ask to find out?). This is the first formal sourcing move in the K-8 history arc.

Common misconceptions
- Inventing answers instead of asking ('What do I see?' answered with 'I think it was their birthday' instead of 'I see a cake')
- Treating WONDER as a guess rather than a question to ASK
- Believing a photo shows the whole truth — at K we just plant the seed that a photo shows ONE moment from ONE camera
