Draft a plaque proposal letter for an unrecognized local person, place, or event

Apply the lessons of Voice-Audit (lesson 12) and corroboration (lesson 12) and local government (lesson 16) to draft a class PLAQUE PROPOSAL letter. The class identifies a person, place, or event in the local community whose contribution has not been formally recognized (typically a marginalized voice). The letter is addressed to the relevant local body (historical commission, school board, town council). It includes a proposed plaque text and primary-source evidence.

Common misconceptions
  • Believing one letter cannot make a difference (the class follows up; the long-arc Generation Citizen frame)
  • Skipping evidence (the proposal must include primary-source evidence)
  • Choosing a person/place/event already formally recognized (the point is to lift up the missing voice)
