Maintain an annotated reading log as a tool for high-school readiness (CCSS RI.8.1-9; NCTE-3; NCTE-11)
Maintain a daily reading log (10-20 minutes/day) across the term with 6-8 sustained pieces of reading. Per piece, record (1) one craft observation, (2) one voice observation with a representative sentence quoted, (3) one structure observation, (4) one takeaway for the writer's own writing. Reviewed in week 17 portfolio reflection. Models the high-school close-reading habit.

Common misconceptions
- Treats the reading log as a list of titles read (misses the annotation discipline).
- Writes annotations without quoting representative sentences (misses the voice-observation requirement).
