Use correlative conjunctions in pairs with parallel structure (L.5.1.e)
Use the four core correlative pairs (MG-14): EITHER/OR, NEITHER/NOR, BOTH/AND, NOT ONLY/BUT ALSO. Keep parts that follow each conjunction PARALLEL in grammatical structure. Apply at least one pair in every essay. Recognize how correlative conjunctions signal specific relationships (alternative / negation / combination / addition-with-emphasis).

Common misconceptions
- Breaks parallelism ('Not only did she write but also poetry' — should be 'Not only did she write poetry but she also wrote prose').
- Confuses either/or (presents options) with neither/nor (negates both) — uses the wrong pair for the relationship.
