Form comparatives and superlatives following the syllable rule: short adjectives take -er/-est (taller, tallest); longer adjectives take more/most (more careful, most careful); adverbs of manner ending in -ly take more/most (more carefully, most carefully). Recognize three irregular forms (good/better/best, bad/worse/worst, far/farther/farthest).

Common misconceptions
