Recognize and use suffixes -ful and -less with root words

Identify -ful and -less suffixes; decode by stripping the suffix to find the root; build new words by adding -ful/-less to grade-appropriate roots. Define -ful as 'full of' and -less as 'without'. Notice the antonym relationship (hopeful/hopeless, careful/careless).

Common misconceptions
  • Doubles the final l when spelling -ful ('hopefull' for 'hopeful').
  • Treats -less as always negative even when the rooted word's neutral meaning carries through (endless = without end, not 'bad').
